Do you go to church?
There’s probably as many reasons why people attend church as the reasons why people do not attend church, in fact some of those reasons are probably the same. I think one of the reasons people attend church is because they are missing something. There is something deep down inside that is missing. There’s an emptiness, a void.
Perhaps they have tried filling it with possessions, drugs, alcohol, or sex. Maybe they have gone to the other extreme striving to be a really “good” person, volunteering at a soup kitchen, giving donations to the crippled children’s fund, and living a morally pure life but something is still missing.
Maybe it occurs to them that they are needing something spiritual. So they decide to go to church because that’s where you go to meet God…. right? So they get up early on Sunday morning and head off to church, where they are met by a smiling greeter (hopefully) that instructs them where to sit. After a few minutes the show begins and for the next hour or so they listen to some incredible singing, followed by an entertaining pastor then they go home feeling a little better – so they decide to go back next week, then the week after. Gradually they start to make some new friends, then they are asked to serve in the nursery and before long they are busy and that nagging within their souls has diminished…….
But every so often, when they aren’t too busy and things are quiet, the burden within their soul returns.
28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.(KJV)
7 Then Jesus said to them again, ……..9 I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. 10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.(NKJV)
8 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach):9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. 13 For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”(NKJV)
Is there something missing in your life? Have you tried to fill that emptiness but have been unable to do so? You might have even tried going to church but church attendance is not the answer. The problem is there is a God shaped void within each person that can only be filled by Jesus. Do you know Him? If not, please invite Jesus into your life.
